Frequently asked questions about line marking and floor markings in warehouses
Preparation and existing floor
That depends on the condition and adhesion of the existing markings. SolidLux can be applied to concrete, tiles and existing industrial floor coatings with good adhesion, provided the substrate is mechanically prepared beforehand. An old layer with good adhesion that is not flexible can often serve as a substrate after sanding, whilst loose, damaged or poorly adhering markings must first be removed. The certified applicator will assess this during the site survey.
Implementation whilst business continues as usual
There is no need to empty the warehouse. SolidLux is applied in stages without any disruption to operations, allowing work to be carried out in phases around occupied racking and active stock. Even a large distribution centre is planned and implemented zone by zone, so that only one section is affected at any given time whilst the rest continues to operate as normal. As the marking can bear loads immediately after UV curing, each completed zone is straight away available again for forklift trucks and staff, and work can continue without delay. This means that even large areas remain manageable without bringing operations to a standstill.
Disruption is limited to the active work area, which is temporarily cordoned off. As SolidLux is solvent-free and odourless, there is no odour nuisance and evacuation or additional ventilation are not required, even when staff are working nearby. Once an area has cured, it is immediately open to traffic again, meaning that routes are only briefly disrupted.
Wear and maintenance in practice
SolidLux’s sealed top layer prevents dirt and rubber from tyre tracks from penetrating the coating, meaning that black streaks remain on the surface and can be removed with regular cleaning. The markings are resistant to machine scrubbing and brushing, and no special cleaning agents are required. As a result, the lines and pictograms remain sharp and clearly visible, even with intensive use.
Yes. As the marking cures and becomes load-bearing immediately after application, a specific traffic lane or area can be repaired locally without having to treat the rest of the floor. This makes it easy to carry out targeted maintenance on areas subject to heavier loads and minimises disruption to operations.
In most cases, yes. The UV-resistant top coat prevents yellowing and colour fading, ensuring that the original colour remains stable and that any markings applied later blend in well. In the case of very heavily worn or soiled markings, there may be a slight difference in colour between the old and new markings. SolidLux uses fixed standard colours, which helps to ensure a consistent finish.
Standards and audit
Yes. SolidLux can provide the relevant declarations and certifications that will be useful during an audit, such as the Bfl-S1 fire classification in accordance with EN 13501-1, the solvent-free IAC GOLD qualification and suitability for HACCP and IFS environments. This enables you to demonstrate the floor marking’s compliance ahead of a health and safety or security audit.
Warehouse-specific conditions
The marking has been developed for intensive industrial use and can withstand the mechanical stress caused by forklift and reach truck traffic. Concentrated point loads, such as those under racking uprights or sharp pallet corners, require a separate assessment, as different forces are at play there than in the case of wear caused by traffic. SolidLux recommends discussing these situations in advance so that the correct configuration can be selected.
Yes. The markings are applied with precision by certified applicators, even in narrow aisles and on tight driving lanes. For VNA warehouses with guidance systems and tight tolerances, SolidLux recommends a technical consultation in advance, so that the markings align exactly with the driving lanes and guidance for the narrow-aisle forklifts.
Yes. Once cured, SolidLux is water- and moisture-resistant and can withstand the temperature fluctuations that occur at loading bays with open doors, where warm and cold air alternate. Furthermore, UV curing is less sensitive to temperature and moisture during application than traditional coatings.
